1,700 homes without power in Stone
A total of 1,700 properties were left without power in a Staffordshire town today after contractors working on a new housing development hit underground cables.
The houses in Stone were first affected at 11.30am and all but 91 properties had their power restored within the hour.
A spokesman for Western Power Distribution said: "At 11.30am contractors hit an underground cable at a new housing development and 1,700 properties lost power.
"We got most of them back on within the hour but the remaining 91 we hope will be restored by 3.30pm today."
