Plans for 66-bed care home in Stone

A 66-bedroom care home could be built in a Staffordshire town if plans are given the green light, creating 50 jobs.

LNT Care Developments has applied to build the two-storey home on football pitches adjacent to The Fillybrooks in Walton, Stone.

A total of 28 car parking spaces would be created if plans are approved.

In the plans it says: "The care home proposed is a purpose-built, two-storey, 66 bed residential care facility for older people with associated access, parking and landscaping.

"Whilst currently allocated as green Infrastructure, the land has been deemed surplus to requirements and is currently being offered for sale by the council.

"This site has been identified as commercially suitable for a new care home in terms of demand, with an undersupply of approximately 110 residential care beds - excluding nursing care - within a three-mile radius.

"The scheme is developed in a configuration which enables the care home to provide for two types of care – general residential and residential dementia. Its plan layout and internal arrangement, allows the home to be spilt into the separate care requirements.

"A secure landscaped garden area will provide the main external amenity space for the respective elements of care.

"The development, which is commercial by definition, is very much residential in nature. It is, therefore, an appropriate use for this location as it will not only generate employment but will also meet an identified housing need and be compatible with the immediate surroundings."

A new access route from The Fillybrooks is proposed as part of the development. A decision will be made on the plans by Stafford Borough Council in the coming months.
