Shane's bedroom at his home in Stafford has not been decorated in 20 years, so one of his carers Siobhan Gardiner has launched an appeal to raise funds to redecorate it.

The 27-year-old loves monkeys so his carers want to have "all things monkeys" in his bedroom to cheer him up as he can't go to day centres during lockdown.

So far £400 has been raised towards the target of £700.

Siobhan said: "Shane is a cheeky chappy who doesn’t let life get him down.

"Shane has Down’s syndrome, a learning disability and also suffers with epilepsy. His room hasn’t been decorated in 20 years.

"Shane loves monkeys and with the help of his carers is getting his room changed to make it safer for him. We have managed to sort the furniture but the only thing we cannot do is decorating as we just don’t have the funds. Shane’s biggest dream is to have all things monkeys in his room as they make him happy.

"With Covid and not being able to go his day centre as much as he used to it means that he is spending more time in his room which in turn is making him low as he doesn’t like his room.

"Shane is a very outgoing and happy young man usually and Covid is taking that away. Hopefully something as little as having the room of his dream will make him feel better and bring back his spark."
