Road works will begin next week

The work taking place on the A513 Beaconside is to provide access to new housing development Marston Grange and will start on Monday, March 23.

The 12-week scheme will involve the widening of the embankment on the northern side of the road between the junction of Marston Lane and Parkside Avenue.

This newly formed embankment will create a new section of road to allow utility companies to divert services. Work is set to be completed on Friday, June 12.

When this phase of the scheme has been completed, work can begin on transforming a section of Beaconside into a dual carriageway from Parkside Avenue to the A34 traffic island junction. Permanent widened junctions will be created at Newbold Drive and Andrus Way.

The main road widening work is due to begin late this year or early in 2021.

During the first 12-week phase, work will take place off-peak between 9.30am and 3pm with temporary traffic signals in place. The current temporary traffic signals at the Newbold Drive/Beaconside junction will be removed during off-peak hours and replaced with two-way traffic lights.

Staffordshire County Council’s cabinet member for highways and transport Helen Fisher said: “This is the first stage of works to widen this section of the A513 Beaconside to provide access to the Marston Grange development.

"When the scheme is complete there will be improved traffic flow due to the creation of dual carriageway and permanent junctions to the development, meaning traffic will not have to queue if heading towards the A34. We anticipate this first phase will finish in June.

"Temporary traffic signals will be in place during the works period and so we would like to thank people in advance for their patience."
