Restaurant staff help boost group's litter bid
A Stafford community group's bid to rid the town of litter has been given a boost thanks to the efforts of staff from a local restaurant.
Workers from the McDonald’s drive-thru on Eccleshall Road have joined forces with the Stafford Litter Heroes, helping out on a number of litter picks in the town.
The collaboration has now seen the staff donate a 'littercart' to the award-winning group, which was presented by drive-thru manager Chris Buckley.
Becki Woolrich, who founded Stafford Litter Heroes, said: "Our volunteers do a fantastic job but we always welcome any extra help and support when it comes along.
"Chris from McDonald’s got in touch saying that a team from the restaurant would like to join in on the litter picking effort and we jumped at the chance, knowing that with the added numbers of people out picking we could really make a difference."
The groups have worked together on a number of events, including town centre 'riverpicks', which target the path that runs alongside the River Sow.
"We're particularly grateful to Chris who went into the river in a pair of waders to get to those hard to reach items, a brilliant effort all round by both teams," Ms Woolrich added.
They also joined forces on a recent litter pick starting from the Eccleshall Road restaurant, which saw staff including Craig Simpson, Danny Walter and franchisee Sarah McLean of the soon to be opened Kingsmead Restaurant all join in, collecting 94.5kg of rubbish.
