The motorway is now fully back open after two northbound lanes were shut for four hours between Wolverhampton and Stafford this morning.

There were delays of more than 30 minutes while the spillage was cleared between between Junction 12 at Gailey and Junction 13 at Stafford South

The road was initially fully closed when the crash happened shortly before 9am and two lanes stayed shut until 1pm.

Congestion was queuing four miles back to Junction 11 for Cannock as a result and there were also delays on the nearby A449 as drivers sought to avoid the M6.

There were also delays on the nearby M54 after a crash on the eastbound exit slip-road at Junction 1 for Cannock at around 9am.

The exit road was closed while emergency services dealt with the incident and the road was back open as normal by 10.20am.

Meanwhile a five-mile stretch of the M6 southbound is to close through the Black Country for repair work on Saturday night.
