Investigation launched into Staffordshire Police after London Bridge terror attack
An investigation has been launched into the role Staffordshire Police played in managing London Bridge terrorist Usman Khan after his release from prison.
The inquiry by the Independent Office for Police Conduct (IOPC) will look into whether more could have been done to prevent the convicted terrorist from carrying out the fatal attack.
Despite being jailed in 2011 for a bomb plot, Khan was allowed to travel to London without a police escort to attend a prison rehabilitation course where he stabbed two volunteers to death.
He had been living in a flat in Wolverhampton Road, Stafford, at the time – which was immediately cordoned off after the deadly attack on November 29.
Cambridge graduates Jack Merritt, 25, and Saskia Jones, 23, were stabbed to death by the 28-year-old terrorist.
