Heavy rainfall causes more flooding in the West Midlands as woes continue - in pictures

More woes faced drivers as fire crews had to rescue numerous people across the West Midlands after flooding.

Cars had to be abandoned heavy rainfall gathered on low-lying roads across the region, leaving people stranded.

The St Thomas Bridge in Stafford had to be shut with police officers calling it "completely impassable", with the remainder of the town centre being heavily affected.

A rescue operation was carried out at the bridge with people urged to avoid the area.

Flooding had also hit low-lying areas near Shugborough Estate in Stafford, with walkers forced to find another way through.

Elsewhere, in Kidderminster, heavy rainfall led to a house in Chesnut Drive being flooded.

Electrics were isolated by fire crews from the town, with the high levels of water caused by a blocked culvert.

The high volume pumping unit, along with firefighters from Bromsgrove and Stourport, tackled the flooding for two hours yesterday.

It comes after the region was hit by heavy downpours, with a weather warning issued by the Met Office.

Flood barriers were installed in Bewdley due to rising water levels on the River Severn, with an alert urging people to avoid the area.

And drivers were left in misery after Gailey Island, which links the A449 Stafford Road and the A5, was covered with low-lying water – forcing drivers to trudge through it.
