Members of the Stafford Litter Heroes found the soaking wet stuffed turtle during a litterpick in Holmcroft last Sunday.

“The poor tiny creature looked so bedraggled that we just had to mount a rescue mission,” group founder Becki Woolrich said.

“I decided he was a young male turtle and soon got him all washed and dried. I couldn’t just call him ‘turtle’ so I named him ‘Ocean’ and was beginning to get really attached to him but knew I had to find his family."

Ms Woolrich put a ‘lost and found’ notice on social media and a short time later received a message from his owners who lived nearby.

It turned out that the turtle had been lost during the school run by a little boy called Kurt who lives on the Eccleshall Road.

"Needless to say Kurt and his turtle were reunited and the story had a happy ending," Ms Woolrich added.

“I was starting to get really fond of that cute turtle but we’re all so glad that he’s back where he belongs now.”

The Holmcroft event saw Stafford Borough councillors Jonathan Price and Marnie Phillips take part, with members collecting 35kg of litter between them.

The group is pulling out all the stops in chasing its target to collect two tonnes of litter by the end of the year, with the running total after their Holmcroft event standing at one tonne and 879kg.
