Ross Panton of Gymzone Limited has applied to Stafford Borough Council for permission to change the use of part of 132 Silkmore Lane – where a Co-op supermarket and Post Office are located – from retail to leisure use.

An application form submitted to the authority said a “gymnasium and fitness and health centre incorporating rehabilition and physiotherapy” was proposed.

The form added: “(It) will include personal training and classes.

“There will be some music played in the gym area and a certain amount of noise from classes. Opening hours (proposed are) Monday to Friday 6am to 10pm, Saturday 8am to 8pm, Sunday 8am to 6pm.

“There will be a likely increase in the number of vehicles on the existing car park.”

The new gym is proposed to have a floor space of just under 400 square metres and include a changing area and spinning studio.

Earlier this year Stafford Borough Council approved plans for a new gym to open in an empty unit in Kingsmead Retail Park in the town centre.
