The authority's cabinet is set to write off £18,038.05 which cannot be recovered in business rates and £16,068.12 in council tax debts when it meets next week.

A report going to the meeting says: "Council tax due for the current year amounts to £81.6 million and we would anticipate collecting in the region of 98.4 per cent within the year, as was the case in the last financial year.

"Action continues to collect the remainder, after the end of the financial year, with over 99 per cent being recovered."

The report also says that all "reasonable and lawful" attempts have been made to recover the debts, including the issue of bills, reminders and final notices, followed by summonses in the magistrates court.

The cabinet is set to write off the debts on Thursday.
