Care home to be used as special needs school
A former care home in Stafford will now be used as a special needs day school after plans were given the green light, creating 37 jobs.
New Burton House in Burton Road will be transformed into a special school which will be known as “Heather Field School” after Stafford Borough Council approved the plans.
The number of pupils at the school is proposed to increase over the next six years, starting with three pupils next year, rising to a predicted maximum of 64 pupils by 2024.
In the application it says: "The application is being submitted on behalf of Dr. Amy Hopkin and Sarah Deaville of SEN 1 Ltd who are highly experienced, talented and passionate educationalists.
"They have transformed the lives of over 100 children in North Staffordshire with special educational needs by providing therapeutic learning environments in their two existing special schools (Hopedale School in Cheddleton, Nr Leek, Staffordshire and Bluebell School in Kidsgrove, Staffordshire) which have been rated outstanding in their most recent Ofsted inspections.
"The schools specifically provide education to children with autistic spectrum condition, speech, language and communication difficulties, and learning difficulties with associated challenging behaviour."
A total of 29 full-time jobs will be created, along with eight part-time jobs.
