Police probe as girl, 5, and woman hit by car on A449
The woman needed advanced trauma care after being seriously injured in the crash.
A woman and a five-year-old girl were injured when they were hit by a car on the A449 last night.
The woman, aged 48, suffered serious leg injuries in the collision, while the girl sustained minor injuries at the incident which happened in Stafford at the junction of Moss Pit and Chain Lain at around 5.45pm.
Both pedestrians were taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital alongside the driver of a VW Touran, a 42-year-old woman, who was also assessed at the hospital.
The A449 and a number of nearby roads were closed for around two-and-a-half hours as police and paramedics dealt with crash, which involved the two pedestrians and one car.
The seriously-injured woman was taken to the major trauma centre at Royal Stoke University Hospital, while the girl and the driver of the car were taken to the same hospital for precautionary checks.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokeswoman said: “Crews arrived to find two pedestrians, a woman and a child, who had been involved in a collision with a car.
"The woman sustained serious injuries and was given advanced trauma care by the team of ambulance staff on scene before she was taken by land ambulance on blue lights to Royal Stoke University Hospital for further emergency care.
"The girl sustained minor injuries and received treatment at the roadside before being taken to the same hospital as a precaution.
"The car driver, a woman, was checked over on scene and was conveyed to the same hospital for further assessment and treatment.”
Three ambulances, a paramedic officer and a critical care car from the Midlands Air Ambulance air based in Tatenhill were sent to the crash.
Officers from Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit also attended and police are now appealing for witnesses.
A spokeswoman for Staffordshire Police said: "Officers from the Staffordshire and West Midlands Serious Collision Investigation Unit are appealing for witnesses following a serious collision in Stafford last night.
"An investigation is now underway and any witnesses or anyone with dash-cam footage is asked to call Staffordshire Police on 101 quoting incident 558 of January 7."
