Stafford Rangers reveal new Shed End after £45k fundraising drive
A new £45,000 stand for Stafford Rangers has been built after years of fundraising and will be used for the first time on Saturday.
Fans clubbed together and managed to raise the funds for the Shed End project at the Marston Road ground.
Now they will be able to use it for the first time when the club takes on Hednesford at 3pm on Saturday.
Ken Hunt, commercial manager at the club, said: "Stafford Rangers fans many years ago would sit in a small stand at the Town End of the ground and that was always known as the Shed End.
"We got promoted to the National Conference League and we had to increase our capacity so it was taken down and replaced with a temporary structure.
"We later lost our status in the Conference so we removed the temporary stand and for some years the terracing has been uncovered.
"The supporters decided to get together about four or five years ago and re-build the stand, so a project group was formed and they raised all the money for the stand which has now been erected. It was £45,000.
"The stand has now been signed off by the planners so it's ready for the game on Saturday."
The stand will be officially opened by fan and fundraiser Eric Robbins and Di Downing, the widow of former resident Jon Downing.
The club has been in existence since 1876 and the fans, as well as the club, are working in unison to improve spectator facilities.
