Elderly mobility scooter rider seriously injured in Stafford crash
A pensioner was seriously injured when the mobility scooter he was riding was involved in a crash with two cars last night.
The 79-year-old man suffered head and chest injuries in the collision which happened in West Way, Stafford, at around 7.15pm.
West Way was closed in the aftermath of the crash, while the injured man was taken by ambulance to Royal Stoke University Hospital.
His condition was described as stable on Wednesday afternoon.
As well as the mobility scooter, which was left with major damage, the crash also involved a Honda Civic and a second unidentified vehicle.
Officers are now urgently trying to trace the driver of the second car, who they say they need to speak to as part of their investigation - although they did stop at the scene.
Pc Martin Colclough said: “We are continuing to review CCTV from the local area.
"However, we are urging any drivers who were at the scene of the collision, other witnesses to the incident or anyone with dash-cam footage to please call us on 101 quoting incident 731 of 16 October.”
West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman Murray McGregor added: "We were called at 7.12pm to West Way following reports of a mobility scooter and two cars involved in a collision.
"We sent an ambulance, a paramedic officer, emergency doctor and trauma doctor.
"On arrival, there was an elderly man and his scooter had suffered considerable damage.
"He suffered serious injuries and was taken on blue lights to Royal Stoke Hospital."
