Two taken to hospital after chemical spill at Stafford factory

Two men were taken to hospital in Stafford after a chemical spill at an industrial site.

Fire crews from Stone, Rugeley and hazardous materials officers were called to an ammonia spill at Bostik in Common Road, on Thursday.

The men were treated for minor inhalation of the chemical and were taken to County Hospital in Stafford.

One ambulance and a paramedic officer from West Midlands Ambulance attended the scene following a 999 call at 4.39pm.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire said: "We were called to Common Road at 4.55pm on Thursday, July 26. "Crews from Rugeley and Stone attended.

"When we arrived there was already paramedics treating two casualties for eye injuries and an evacuation had taken place.

"The casualties were taken to Stafford hospital by ambulance.

"A BA (breathing apparatus) team were used to deal with a five litre spillage from what was believed to be an ammonia tank.

"The area was made safe and the incident was handed back to the on site specialists."
