Traveller caravans pull onto playing fields in Stafford

Travellers have moved onto playing fields in Stafford.

Around a dozen vehicles arrived on the fields off Holmcroft Road on Saturday afternoon.

They are situated next to Holmcroft Library and a children's play area.

Stafford Borough Council is aware of the incident.

County Councillor Jonathan Price said: "I've been to the site and am monitoring the situation.

"Unfortunately we are finding they are already leaving a mess at the site."

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We received reports at around 12.20pm on Saturday of members of the travelling community parking vehicles on land off Holmcroft Road in Stafford.

"At the moment this is a civil matter but officers are monitoring the situation.".
