Woman died after being pulled from canal near Stafford
A woman died after being pulled out of a canal near Stafford.
The woman was pulled out of the water in Great Haywood, as temperatures plummeted towards freezing, but died later in hospital.
Police were called to the canal at Mill Lane at around 6.35pm on Tuesday.
The woman, who was in her sixties, was taken to Royal Stoke Hospital but died.
Police said a man, also in his sixties, was helping them with their inquiries and have appealed for anyone with information to come forward.
Detective Inspector John Quilty, of Staffordshire Police, said: “We’re very keen to speak to people who may have been in the area at the time and have seen something to get in touch.
“This is a busy spot for boaters and walkers, close to Shugborough, so please call 101 referring to number 634 of February 6 if you can help.”
