Stafford music fan killed himself just weeks after death of 'idol' Chris Cornell
A music fan from Stafford who was devastated by the death of a singer he ‘idolised’ killed himself just weeks later, an inquest heard.
Paul Insull committed suicide in the wake of the death of Soundgarden frontman Chris Cornell, Cannock Coroner’s Court was told.
The star, 52, was found dead in a hotel room in the USA in May following a concert.
Mr Insull, a roofer who lived in Browning Street, Stafford, killed himself three weeks later.
The 31 year old had ‘a history of anxiety, depression, previous self-harm and alcohol abuse’ the inquest was told. He was found hanging at his home on June 11 after he had been out drinking and died on June 16.
Assistant coroner Margaret Joy Jones, who recorded a conclusion of suicide, said: “The deceased had a history of anxiety, depression, previous self-harm and alcohol abuse.
“He had recently been depressed by the suicide of a singer whom he idolised.
“On June 11, 2017, he had been drinking in the afternoon and at about 6.45pm he was found hanging at his home address. Resuscitation was commenced and he was taken to the Royal Stoke University Hospital North Staffordshire. He did not regain consciousness.
“He died at 3.30am on June 16. The cause of death given without post-mortem examination was hanging, hypoxic brain injury and encephalopathy.
“There was no third party involvement.”
