Stafford PR firm Stone Junction encouraging staff to vote on Election Day
A Stafford company is giving its staff an hour of paid leave to encourage them to go out and vote on June 8 – and is encouraging other companies to follow suit.
Around one third of registered voters did not vote in the 2015 general election. In response to this, public relations consultancy Stone Junction is inviting other companies to join it in giving each of its employees one hour off to vote.
“Voting isn’t just about ticking a box — it’s about being in control of your future,” explained Richard Stone, managing director of Stone Junction.
“Although polling stations are open outside standard working hours, many employees still choose to go home after a long day at the office, rather than going to vote.
“At Stone Junction, we believe that it is extremely important that everyone has the opportunity to vote, and we'd like other companies to join us in our pledge to give every employee one hour of paid leave to cast their vote on June 8.”
In order to raise the awareness of the importance of voting, Stone Junction has set up an online petition and is calling for other companies to sign and make a change.
Companies can pledge their support on Stone Junction’s change.org page — https://www.change.org/p/stone-junction-giving-staff-an-hour-off-to-vote.
On election day, Stone Junction employees will be allowed to arrive one hour later, leave one hour earlier or take an hour out during the day to vote. For employees that travel further for work, the additional flexibility is intended tol give them more opportunity to visit their local polling station at a time that suits them.
Stone Junction is a technical PR agency based in Stafford. The company has achieved record breaking growth over the last year — increasing from a team of nine in May last year to16 this month. The agency says it is continuing to recruit and expects to finish the year with around 20 members of the team.
