Officers were at the address on The Longlands to make a pre-planned arrest when they made the discovery, according to Staffordshire Police.

The Army’s Explosive Ordnance Disposal team were called in to support police as searches at the property continued.

Staffordshire Police added that "a 29-year-old man was arrested on suspicion of disseminating offensive material.

"The arrest was carried out as part of an ongoing investigation".

A resident, who did not want to be named, said she did not know the man who was arrested, but was aware that he had been helpful to elderly neighbours during the coronavirus lockdown.

She said: "We saw the police arrive. This was about 8.45am. There was quite a lot of them and they were in plain clothes.

"There were lots of vehicles, but no flashing lights. We stayed out of the way. We did see the Army bomb disposal team come into the street at about 4pm.

"When we took our dog for a walk down the lane afterwards a female police officer asked us where we lived. That was all. We weren't evacuated."
