Work progressing on multi-million Codsall community hub project
Work is progressing on an almost £10 million community hub in South Staffordshire after it was backed by councillors.
Chiefs at South Staffordshire Council backed the scheme last year which includes a revamp of their offices in Codsall.
The project is set to bring a GP surgery, NHS community outreach team and police to the Wolverhampton Road headquarters.
Council leader Councillor Brian Edwards MBE said: “The impact of Covid-19 has tested, and proven, the council’s ability to work remotely and underlined the need to update the building’s outdated infrastructure.
“It will enhance the space so it’s conducive for a future way of working, with agile working continuing to be a driving factor behind the design of the office space in the community hub.
“This investment will secure the building’s long-term future and the council has been working with partners and local businesses to make sure the new community hub meets the needs of the local community.
“I’m sure it will be a huge asset to the district and I’m looking forward to seeing it open in early 2022.”
It will also include the relocation of the village library, which is already on-site, into a new building and more than 70 extra parking spaces.
Other changes will see a refurbishment of the existing facilities and a redesign of the council chamber. It was backed in September last year.
The predicted annual income from the hub once it is completed is £567,830, which includes existing income from tenants, a cabinet report said.
