Broken drain flooding elderly couple's cellar
An elderly couple’s cellar is being flooded everyday by a blocked drain outside their home.
The issue at Allan White’s address, on Low Street, Cheslyn Hay, has been taking place for almost 12 months.
At times, Mr White, aged 74, said he has had to empty 15 buckets of drainage water each day.
However, he feels let down by authorities who have so far failed to fix the issue.
Mr White, a grandfather, said council officers visited the site in December and confirmed the drain was blocked.
Since then, however, no action has been taken.
Mr White, who lives at home with his wife Carol, 74, said: “I am feeling angry and frustrated by the situation. I feel let down by everybody.
“I first reported this in March but the first time I was seen was in December.
“Somebody came out with one of those vacuum tankers to inspect the drain. He confirmed what I had been saying since February that the drain was blocked. It must have been a burst pipe.
“I have spoken to a local councillor who told me on December 16 that we were on a priority waiting list in the area, in third position.”
Mr White said the water finds its way into his cellar between the room’s wall and floor. The water is dirty, as it comes off the round, and affects the elderly couple using their cellar, which acts as a storage area, containing their freezer, and also Mr White’s workshop.
He added: “It is not ideally for anybody to have to remove buckets of water each day. Not even somebody aged 20-years-old would want to do it, let alone someone in their 70s.”
