Spooktacular display to stay in place for charity

A huge fan of Halloween has vowed to keep on with a vast and vivid display at the front of his house.

Richard Holdcroft created the display, which features skeletons, dummies with a scream mask on and clowns, outside his house in Perton as a way to raise funds for Acorns Children's Hospice.

The 34-year-old said he had come up with the idea of the display, which was 12-foot-long, after creating a scarecrow and being encouraged to go bigger.

He said: "It was my mum who suggested I should add a few more things and make some money for charity, which I thought was a great idea.

"Kids won't be able to go treat or treating this year because of Covid, but if they're doing the pumpkin trail in the town, at least they've got something decent to look at and we can raise a few funds for Acorns."

The display has not been without controversy, however, after someone complained and Richard's landlords Bromford asked him to either move it or alter it.

Richard added: "They suggested a few options, which were to take it down, tone it down or move it to the other side of the garden wall.

"I made the point to them that if I move it, no one is going to see it and no one will make a donation to something they can't see or, if I tone it down, something that isn't very impressive.

"I've had such good feedback from people online and from people across the village that I've decided to leave it up as it is as I think one complaint is nothing."

Richard kept the display up until November 1 and has asked for donations to be made to either the donation pots on the display or on his Just Giving page.
