The i54 Western Extension project has been continuing through the Covid-19 period and the on-site access road is now complete.

The next phase of works, starting on Wednesday, will include the installation of a new drainage system from the site to the River Penk.

The work is expected to take three days to complete and Lawn Lane will be temporarily closed. A signed diversion will be in place and access to the mobile home park for residents only will be maintained via Wobaston Road.

On-site work is continuing to build platforms for the new industrial units, introduce utilities and create landscaping. The project is scheduled to be completed in late summer 2021.

Philip White, deputy leader and cabinet member for economy at Staffordshire County Council, said: “The western extension of i54 South Staffordshire is an exciting project that will bring hundreds more jobs to the area in addition to additional private investment.

“Work on site continues at pace and has done so throughout the lockdown period, with the project team adhering to all necessary safety guidelines.

“This latest phase of the project will see the completion of drainage works and is expected to take around three days to complete. As always, our crews will be doing their best to get the work done as efficiently as possible and I thank people for their patience while the work is being carried out.”
