South Staffordshire Council deferred its decision on plans for 73 homes in Brewood last month to allow developer Lovell Homes time to revise a construction access route to the site off Engleton Lane.

The revised route involves an existing farm access to direct traffic into the site from Ivy House Lane to the north, removing the need for construction traffic to drive down Engleton Lane.

Agent Neil Cox, who spoke in support of the application at Tuesday’s planning committee meeting, said: “Lovell Homes has listened, understood and dealt with concerns regarding the construction access raised by the parish council, local residents and members of the planning committee.”

But ward councillor Wendy Sutton said she still had concerns for the safety of residents and road users – although the revised route went some way to resolving issues.

She called for the presence of a banksman on Ivy House Lane between 8am and 9am to be extended to 8am to 5pm Monday to Friday and 8am to 1pm on a Saturday.

The meeting was told a banksman would still be available on the site after 9am however.

The development is set to include 30 affordable homes – 15 for shared ownership and 15 for rent – as well as bungalows.

The plans were recommended for approval by planning officers and the committee agreed to grant permission.
