Springfield House care home in Oaken Drive hosted the event to have fun and raise money for charity Help for Heroes on Saturday, January 27.

Dressed up in their 1940s finery, staff and residents welcomed visitors in from 11am to enjoy tea, war-themed crafts, music, and a chance to enter the raffle.

Service manager at the home Martin Bate said everyone had a "fantastic time".

He said: "It was really worth putting on - it was such a rewarding day. Everyone thoroughly enjoyed themselves. They all had a really lovely time.

"We had a lady come in and talk about experiencing life in the 40s, as she was a child then. We had a man come in with footage of Spitfires and gave a talk. And we had a comedian too who quoted odes and poems from the 1940s.

"There was some dancers too, who got the residents up dancing, and singers, which was really nice as the residents could remember the words and were singing along."

During the day, there was also a musical performance from Halesowen-based theatre group, Startime Variety.

Jeanette Greenway, a member of the group, said of the day: "It was very good. The staff dressed up as well and when we arrived we sang 40s songs. I sang Cliffs of Dover and another member, Bill Speake read the poem Albert and the Lion.

"The residents seemed very happy and everyone looked like they were enjoying themselves."

The event raised money throughout for charity Help the Heroes, but Mr Bate said the final amount would not be know until the end of the week, as raffle tickets were still being sold.
