A5 crash: Woman seriously injured in smash as barrier repairs shut route for 14 hours
A woman was taken to hospital after a crash involving a lorry which shut part of the A5 for more than 14 hours.
The busy route was blocked near the junction with Vicarage Road close to J12 of the M6 since late on Monday evening.
Highways officials tweeted images showing twisted barriers and damage caused in the crash.
A 37-year-old woman, from Telford, suffered serious head injuries in the crash between a car and lorry.
She was taken to Wolverhampton's New Cross Hospital but is now in a stable condition.
The woman was driving a white Suzuki Jimny compact 4x4 which hit a white Mercedes articulated lorry near Four Ashes.
Police officers from Staffordshire Police were called at around 9.35pm to the crash.
The A5 was closed in both directions between M6 junction 12 and A4601 Wolverhampton Road between Longford and Wedges Mills.
It briefly reopened in the early hours northbound but was closed again to allow barrier repairs to be carried out.
The road was expected to be closed into Tuesday afternoon.
Staffordshire Police are appealing for witnesses following the incident and anyone with information that could assist in the investigation has been asked to contact them on101 quoting incident 681 of 15 January.
