Police dog escapes injury as suspected thieves ram patrol car in Rugeley
Suspected thieves rammed a police vehicle which had a police dog inside.
Staffordshire Police were called to Penk Drive, Rugeley at 1.45am on Wednesday following reports of suspicious activity.
A car owner reported two men trying the door handle of their vehicle, before leaving the scene in a white Seat Leon.
Officers searched the area and located the suspect vehicle, which then failed to stop and rammed the police car twice - once on Winchester Road and again on Fishley Lane.
Police were forced to withdraw from following the vehicle due to the damage sustained to their car – in which police dog Vixen was a passenger.
PD Vixen was uninjured in the incident.
Two police officers were assessed by paramedics at the scene for possible whiplash, but decided to continue with their shift.
The Seat is believed to have then continued travelling towards Bloxwich, until the two suspects fled on foot.
Officers are reviewing CCTV footage of the area at the time of the incident in order to identify the offenders.
One of the suspects is described as white and was wearing grey jogging bottoms with a light-coloured top. The other is also described as white and was wearing a black sports hooded jacket.
