Second test blast to take place at Rugeley Power Station ahead of demolition
A second test blast will take place at Rugeley Power Station on Wednesday ahead of the towers being demolished in June.
At about 2.30pm the second test blast using explosives will take place on one of the cooling towers.
It comes after it was revealed the cooling towers are set to be demolished on June 6.
Plans have been submitted for a road closure so the four cooling towers can be demolished.
It will be the last major demolition at the site which is being cleared to make way for 2,300 homes, commercial buildings and a school on site.
A spokesman for owner ENGIE said: "This event [on Wednesday] will not result in the demolition of a tower, but is to test a small section to further establish the correct explosive charging requirements for their demolition at a later date.
"There will be a small amount of debris from the blast, but no structure will be demolished. Although the explosive detonation may be heard off site, any noise will be over very quickly and there will be nothing visible from off site.
"To protect everyone on site and in the local area an exclusion zone will be in place before, during and immediately after the event. The exclusion zone is well within the power station boundary fence and there will be no public access to the area or impact on the local road network."
