Bid to have 106 cards sent to mark Ceridwen's special day
A Staffordshire care home has launched an appeal to help celebrate a special birthday for a resident.
Horse Fair Care Home in Rugeley have started the appeal to try and get 106 cards to be sent to the home to help mark the 106th birthday of Ceridwen Herring.
Ceridwen, or Kerry, will turn 106 on September 1 and wellbeing and activities co-ordinator Jessica Mitchell said she wanted to find a special way to celebrate such a significant birthday.
She said: "I was talking to the family about the birthday and, at present, things are very difficult because we are limited to how much contact residents can have with families.
"Based on government guidelines, we can't celebrate the way we'd like to, so I decided to do something special for Ceri by speaking to my community contacts about an idea I'd had."
Jessica said she spoke to local councillors and businesses about getting cards sent into the home to wish Ceri a happy birthday and the response had been resoundingly positive.
She said: "They all gave their support to it, including Councillor Olivia Lyons, who is making a special cake for the event.
"They are putting out the word to their communities about sending cards in, which is amazing and will help us make the day very special for her."
Jessica described Kerry, who was born in Llanfair in Wales, as a loving woman with a great sense of humour.
She said: "She always enjoys a laugh and a joke and loves leading the room in a sing-a-long, especially with Welsh songs.
"It would mean a lot for people to get involved and send in cards as we are a family here and we would collectively love to see her smile when she sees how many cards she has."
