The Environment Agency began work on constructing the 350 metre long embankment along Hagley playing fields last December which is four metres tall at its highest point.

The scheme, which was at first quoted as £2m, has now finished with the agency confirming it will be formally unveiled on Monday - whilst also stating the final cost had soared to £5.2m.

It will protect 114 homes and 159 businesses from the risk of flooding when the Rising Brook overflows and the culvert, based at Rugeley, becomes full.

It causes water to overflow into the town while surface water is unable to drain into the culvert and blocks the roads.

The prevention scheme has also created a flood storage area which will store water during heavy rainfall and release it back into the watercourse when the levels have fallen.
