Rugeley Charter Fair attracts more than 3,000
Thousands of people flocked to an annual charter fair, with attractions including a dinosaur invasion and a dog display team.
People from all across Cannock Chase and beyond turned out to the Rugeley Charter Fair this past Saturday at Green Lane playing fields.
There had been concerns that the event would suffer this year having to move from its usual location at Hagley Fields to Green Lane because of the flood prevention work, but this was never the case.
Attractions on the day, which started with a parade at midday and ran through to 8pm, included a stunt motorcycle show, ferret racing, art Brazil samba workshop, stalls and displays plus a giant fun fair.
The fair was organised by Rugeley Town Council. Rebecca Mason, the assistant town clerk at the council, said the event went 'really really well'.
She added: "We had a bit of upheaval due to the relief work in Rugeley. Normally we have the fair each year at Hagley Fields but we had to move it this year to Green Lane.
"It was different and we have had to work round the clock on a number of issues, such as parking, but it went really really well.
"We had a very high attendance and a lot of the stalls said they did better in Green Lane than they did over at Hagley Fields. We must have had in excess of 3,000 there on Saturday.
"Our attractions included a dinosaur invasion, big and little horse display, a dog display featuring a dog jumping through hoops of fire and a mountain bike stunt team.
"The popular attractions on the day for children was definitely the dinosaur invasion and big and little.
"I am really really pleased and we as a town council are very very happy with how it went."
Asked about the future of the charter fair, Ms Mason added: "2018 we are already looking at it probably being held around June 9 but that is yet to be confirmed."
