Kym Morris, Business Manager at Legionella & Fire Safe Services in Lichfield,  is among 26 exceptional individuals to be awarded the British Citizen Award (BCA) at the Palace of Westminster.

The medal presentation, set for Thursday, will see Kym receive the coveted BCA Medal of Honour for Service to Volunteering & Charitable Giving (BCAv).

For 13 years, Kym has campaigned alongside Denise Fergus, mother of James Bulger, in her fight for justice for James.

She has also volunteered throughout this time with the James Bulger Trust, assisting the charity established in memory of the two-year-old abducted and murdered in 1993.

In 2020, she became Chair of the Trust, which aims to support young people disadvantaged by bereavement, crime, hatred, or bullying and she has been able to promote the awareness of the charity and fundraise to enable more families to be helped.

Kym has made significant strides in supporting families affected by crime, advocating for justice, and driving positive change.

Her work ensures that families impacted by bullying, abuse, or loss have their voices heard by schools, police, and MPs.

She promoted a petition that amassed over 250,000 signatures, leading to a House of Commons debate, and continues to fight for justice and change alongside Denise Fergus BCAc.

Locally, Kym also supports vulnerable individuals in her community, and at Christmas 2023, led a successful campaign for Age UK, providing activity-filled stockings for elderly residents spending the holiday alone.

Her unwavering dedication to families and individuals in need has brought relief, justice, and hope, making a lasting impact both locally and nationally.

Stephanie Wood, from BCA Partner One Stop, said: "This year's medalists exemplify the incredible support within our communities, especially during challenging times. We're honoured to partner with the BCA and play a part in recognising these exceptional individuals."

The presentation, hosted by TV presenter Matt Allwright, will be attended by BCA Patrons Dame Mary Perkins, Founder of Specsavers, and The Rt Hon Lord Dholakia. Following the ceremony, medalists will enjoy an Open Top Lap of Honour tour and a certificate presentation at another distinguished Westminster venue.
