103-year-old celebrates birthday with first-ever battered chips
A care home's oldest resident has celebrated her 103rd birthday by trying battered chips for the first time.
Nancy Booth also had a visit from an ice cream van, was entertained by a singer and enjoyed a high tea at Rosemary Lodge Residential Home in Lichfield on Friday.
The grandmother-of-two started the day by having her hair, make up and nails done and later was surrounded by her family and friends.
She said: "It's been brilliant, I can't believe everybody in this home has sent cards, flowers, I'm overwhelmed because I never expected anything, I didn't tell anyone anything about my birthday.
"I'd never had battered chips before so that was part of my birthday present.
"The ice cream van was absolutely fabulous, I think that was my first in 12 months."
Mrs Booth said the secret to a long happy life was working hard.
She added: "I do think if you keep on working, and I really mean working, as long as you can.
"I'm not old yet and I don't want to sit like a grandma with a shawl around me."
Mrs Booth's son Alan said: "She was born in Burntwood but lived in Lichfield.
"She lived with her daughter until November last year.
"My father James Booth, known as Jim, passed away about 29 years ago.
"She was a housewife and my father was a painter and decorator and worked for the NHS.
"She's had a fantastic time."
