Lichfield dad and sons brave the shave for NHS fundraising challenge
A Lichfield father and his two sons have braved the shave to raise money for NHS staff working during the coronavirus crisis.
Dad Russ Pike and his sons Reece, aged 12, and nine-year-old Fin have all shaved their heads – and have raised more than £1,000 in the process for NHS Charities Together.
Originally, the lads set a target for £100 – and were amazed when the total shot past that.
Russ, age 50, said: "My youngest lad, Fin, came up with the idea after we did the Clap for Carers and dragged his brother into it too. Their hair was really long anyway and obviously we couldn't get to a hairdressers. They set a target of £100 and by the next few days they were on £470.
"I told them if they raise £650 I’ll shave my head too. Suddenly my wife Alison started putting it on Facebook and telling her friends I was going to do it and the contributions shot up.
"So at the weekend the shave took place in our cul de sac with well wishers and neighbours cheering them on from two metres away."
Russ, who runs his own advertising agency, added: "Fin likes his hair cut but Reece wants his to grow back now. Their mum didn't take part – she would have needed £10,000 to shave her head!
"It was great that they jumped on board like that. They are really impressed with the amount raised – every little helps the charities."
The boys have so far raised just over £1,050 and hope to keep the total rising.
