Church volunteer recognised for work by Bishop of Lichfield
A Staffordshire woman has been rewarded for her outstanding voluntary service in the church by the Bishop of Lichfield.
Lynne Mills is one of five people within the Diocese of Lichfield to be awarded a St Chad's Medal.
The medal, which is named after the first Bishop of Lichfield, is given to lay people who have made a particularly valuable contribution to Christian life in the Diocese of Lichfield.
Lynne was presented with her medal by Bishop of Lichfield Michael Ipgrave alongside three of the other medal winners at a St Chad's day service at Lichfield Cathedral on Monday, March 2.
Lynne, from Great Wyrley, has worked as a devoted member of the Diocese of Lichfield for more than 10 years, taking on roles with a number of different groups around the region.
This has included serving as Warden to the diocesan Community of Evangelists and being a regular in the Churches tent at the annual Staffordshire County Show.
Lynne has also volunteered in evangelism and mission as a mystery worshipper and serves as a trustee for Hands at Work, a charity linking churches and schools in South Staffordshire and Southern Africa.
Bishop Michael said lay people were the unseen heroes who kept churches and communities running across the Diocese.
He said: "The St Chad's Medal is one way of recognising their tireless service while encouraging more people to follow Christ in the footsteps of St Chad, partnering with others in their communities to seek the common good."
