Van driver, 21, killed in A5 crash with crop sprayer

A young man has died after the van he was driving crashed with an agricultural vehicle on the A5 today.

The crash happened at the junction of the A5 and Streetway Road near Weeford in Staffordshire at about 11.30am.

The 21-year-old driver of the Citroen van was pronounced dead at the scene while the driver of the Bateman crop sprayer was unhurt, Staffordshire Police said.

The road was closed for around three hours while specialist collision officers examined the scene.

Photos from the crash site showed police examining the crop sprayer, which was left on Streetway Road, and the van, which ended up in a hedge.

A West Midlands Ambulance Service spokesman said: “On arrival crews discovered a van that had left the carriageway following a collision with a tractor trailer.

“The van driver, a man, was found to have suffered multiple serious injuries in the collision.

“Unfortunately, it quickly became apparent nothing could be done to save him and he was confirmed dead at the scene.”
