The Friends of Hednesford Park hosted the Teddy Bear's picnic as the last event of its summer holidays programme.

The event included a treasure hunt, face painting and a puppet workshop and puppet show.

Other highlights included Dennis Bowen, from Norton Canes, and his steam engine rides and Usborne Books encouraging children to have fun reading.

Resident Hayley Tennant said on Facebook: "Had a great afternoon at Hednesford park for the Teddy Bear Picnic. The kids loved the treasure hunt (which had loads of prizes) & having their face painted. Thank you."

Tracy Pig added on the social media site: "A fantastic event. Thank you for providing, my children had a brilliant time and were super impressed with their prizes."

Cindy Faulkner, the vice-chair of The Friends of Hednesford Park, said: "I love getting the prizes for the treasure hunts, they are our most popular events and it is a joy to see the children's happy faces."

Committee member Andy Williams added: "We are very grateful to get Heritage Lottery Fund money to provide the treasure hunt prizes."

Friends of Hednesford Park organised the event in conjunction with Staffs Smilestones, a new group that has gained thousands of members in just a few months.

The group was created this summer by Jane Johns and now has more than 6,000 members. Throughout the summer families have been painting special stones around the park and hiding them. The concept is for people to find stones, post a photograph of themselves with the stones and then to rehide them.

The group has become so popular in the park that the Friends of Hednesford Park supports it with themed stones at every event it holds.

The Teddy Bear's Picnic took place on August 23.
