Man seriously injured as lorry overturns in crash
A driver was left seriously injured after a lorry overturned in a crash with a car.
The car driver, a man in his 20s, suffered a fractured leg, hip and pelvic injuries as well as cuts to his arms in the smash on Wednesday night.
He was rushed to the major trauma centre in Stoke after the crash happened at 7.51pm on the A460 Lodge Lane in Cheslyn Hay, Cannock.
Meanwhile the driver of the HGV, a man in his 40s, suffered minor injuries and managed to get himself out and sit on the roadside while his lorry lay on its side across the road.
Both vehicles were left with major damage.
West Midlands Ambulance Service confirmed it was called to the scene, sending two ambulances, a paramedic officer and a MERIT trauma doctor.
Jamie Arrowsmith, a spokesman for the service, said: “Crews arrived to find a lorry that overturned and a car with substantial front-end damage.
“The driver of the car, a man in his 20s, was assisted out of the car and treated for a fractured leg, hip and pelvic injuries as well as cuts to his arms.
“The man, who was suffering from a slightly reduced level of consciousness, was immobilised with the use of a scoop stretcher and given pain relief before being taken to Royal Stoke University Hospital on blue lights and sirens.
“Ambulance staff found the lorry driver, a man in his 40s, sitting at the roadside having managed to get himself out.
“He was treated for cuts to his face, given pain relief and taken to Walsall Manor Hospital.”
