Driver taken to hospital after car crashes into wall in Cannock

Emergency services were called to Cannock after a car crashed into a wall today after the driver is thought to have become unwell while driving.

A blue VW Polo crashed into a wall in Walsall Road at about 12.15pm.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We were called at around 12.15pm today to reports of a road traffic collision in Walsall Road, Cannock.

"The collision involved a blue VW Polo which left the road and struck a wall. No other vehicles were involved and it is possible the man, in his 60s, became unwell while driving.

"His condition is not believed to be serious but he has been taken to hospital for checks."

Jordan Eggington, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called at 12.07pm to reports of a single vehicle road traffic collision on Walsall Road in Cannock.

"We sent the Midlands Air Ambulance from Cosford, a land ambulance and a paramedic officer to the scene.

"When crews arrived they found a car had crashed into a wall, with the driver, a man, who’s believed to have suffered a medical incident at the wheel. He was treated on scene before being taken to New Cross Hospital by land ambulance for further treatment.”
