Lamppost knocked down during Cannock crash

A lamppost was knocked down during a crash in Cannock.

A BMW X5 and a Skoda Fabia were involved in a collision at the Queen's Square Roundabout at about 8.30am today.

One of the vehicles then hit a lamppost at the busy junction which connects the a34 and Church Street.

Two people were checked over by ambulance crews but did not require hospital treatment and engineers were called to make the lamppost safe.

A spokesman for Staffordshire Police said: "We attended the scene of a road traffic collision just after 8.30am this morning near Church Street in Cannock.

"A BMW X5 and Skoda Fabia were involved and one of the vehicles struck and damaged a lamppost after they collided.

"There was damage to the vehicles and one of the drivers was treated for shock. Injuries were reported but these are not believed to be serious."

Claire Brown, spokeswoman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "We were called to reports of a road traffic collision on Queens Square near Church Street, Cannock at 8.42am this morning. One ambulance attended and assessed two patients who didn’t require hospital treatment."

Anyone with information is urged to contact police on 101 or via social media referring to incident 120 of October 19.
