Cannock landfill stench should 'be dealt with in four weeks'
The stench from a landfill site in Cannock should be dealt with in four weeks, residents have been reassured.
An urgent council meeting has been called over the smell at the Biffa-owned Poplars Landfill and Anaerobic Digestion Site, and hundreds of people have signed a petition ordering action be taken.
And now MP Amanda Milling has met with both Biffa and the Environment Agency and after a "significant" number of residents contacted her over Christmas.
She said: "We've had problems for a while now and I've been in constant dialogue with Biffa and the Environment Agency, but the number of complaints I was receiving over Christmas was significant.
"I met with them at the earliest opportunity to discuss the ongoing problems and asked what they are doing to address it.
"Some of the problem is due to the significant rainfall during the autumn and the measures that they've tried to take to mitigate the problem hasn't worked.
"So they are putting in plastic capping as at the moment they are using clay, but that will take time, about four weeks.
"Hopefully with that residents will notice an improvement over time.
"They've used it on other sites and it has addressed the problems."
