Car roof cut off after A5 crash in Cannock

A car was cut open by firefighters after a crash on the A5 in Cannock today.

Firefighters, paramedics and police were sent to the two-car crash which happened on the Watling Street roundabout at about 9am.

The roof of the Peugeot was cut off by firefighters and a woman in her 20s was taken to hospital with "potentially serious" injuries.

Murray MacGregor, spokesman for West Midlands Ambulance Service, said: "One ambulance attended and the crew asked the fire service to come and help extract a patient.

"The patient is a woman in her 20s and she was taken to New Cross Hospital with potentially serious injuries."

A Staffordshire Police spokesman said: "We’re attending a two-car collision on the Watling Street roundabout in Cannock.

"Called at 9.15am to report of two vehicles, Peugeot and Vauxhall.

"The driver of the Peugeot was complaining of back pain and an ambulance was called."
