Cannock police cause stir on social media after drugs found in missing wallet
Police have caused a stir on social media after posting a wallet handed in to Cannock station – with a mysterious item inside.
Cannock Police posted a picture of the wallet on its Facebook page showing its contents, which included a provisional driving licence and a plastic bag with drugs inside.
The force made a light-hearted joke about the illegal item found within, and urged the wallet owner to come and collect it and have a chat.
The item was apparently found near the Co-op store in Anglesey Street, Hednesford, but handed in to the police station after.
An officer said: "Lost property, this wallet has been handed in. Found near to Co-op in Hednesford. Collection service now available at Cannock Station and officers are happy to take an account for the other item found within."
But some social media users did not find the joke as funny – one Facebook user urged the police to "show a bit of respect" and another said the force was "wasting its time" posting the information on the networking site.
Another asked why the police did not just go to the house of the wallet owner, and ask about the drugs, if they already knew their address from the provisional licence.
