Cannock tip cordoned off by police investigating Wolverhampton waste firm death
Part of a Staffordshire tip has been cordoned off by police in an investigation linked to the death of a man in Wolverhampton.
Police investigators and tents could be seen at Poplars Tip in Cannock yesterday.
A spokesman for West Midlands Police confirmed officers were searching the landfill site off Lichfield Road in connection with an industrial accident at Timmins Waste, in Mander Street, last Friday, in which a 29-year-old man is believed to have died.
The alarm was raised on Friday evening by the man’s mother when he did not return from work.
The police spokesman said: “It’s now believed he may have died as a result of an industrial incident at the site.
“An investigation has been launched and West Midlands Police is working with the Health and Safety Executive to understand what happened.
“Enquiries have led police to the search at the landfill site in Cannock.
“Timmins Waste has also been secured by police for examination.
“The man’s next of kin is being fully updated with the investigation.”
