Road closed after fire crews called to garage blaze
A Staffordshire town centre road was closed off for several hours after a fire broke out at a garage.
Fire crews from across Staffordshire were called to reports of the fire on Burntwood High Street just after 2.30am, with crews from Cannock, Chase Terrace, Lichfield and Rugeley attending.
They found the garage well-alight and tackled it using a fire hydrant and hose reel jets, while neighbouring buildings were also evacuated to ensure residents were safe.
The fire was confirmed as out by 8.30am and no injuries recorded, with the High Street reopened soon after.
A spokesman for Staffordshire Fire and Rescue said: "We were called to High Street, just after 2.30am this morning (Tuesday 14 November).
"Officers closed the road whilst colleagues from Staffordshire Fire and Rescue Service tackled the fire.
"The fire was extinguished by fire crews who helped to prevent the fire from spreading. We helped to evacuate nearby residents to make sure they were safe.
"No one was injured and officers and fire crews remain at the scene.
"Our colleagues from Staffordshire Police closed the road at the time, but it has since been re-opened.
