Lichfield District Council has given housing association Bromford planning permission to build 95 homes for social rent, shared ownership and private sale on land off Mount Road in a £16 million plan.

The site was given outline planning permission in 2017 and the revised application has now been ratified by the authority under delegated powers paving the way for Bromford to complete its latest development in the area.

The land, which borders onto New Road to the south of the town centre, is part of the former Mount Road Industrial Estate where several former factory buildings have lain empty for a number of years.

Over the summer four industrial buildings were demolished and the housing provider will now invest £16 million to transform the area.

It marks the second significant housing development for Bromford in Burntwood in recent times as it currently carries out a £3.1m redevelopment of land at Cannock Road with residents expected to move in during the early part of next year.

The project has seen 13 new homes built for affordable rent as well as a new MyPlace supported housing development with 14 self-contained one bedroom apartments.

Work at Mount Road is scheduled to start on site during the winter and will be carried out by the housing association’s in-house construction team, Bromford Developments Limited (BDL).

Bromford’s senior land manager, Nathan Deen, said: “We are delighted to secure planning approval for this site which is in a fantastic location being so close to the local primary school and outdoor recreational spaces as well as just a short walk to the high street with its shops, restaurants, and other amenities.

“As the main housing provider in Lichfield District, Burntwood is an area we know well and where we are really keen to invest in. This 95-home development will meet a real local demand both for social rented homes as well as people looking to get a first step on to the property ladder through shared ownership.”

To register interest in the site, people are asked to visit bromford.co.uk/find-a-home/ where they will soon be able to find further information.
