Nine Burntwood neighbours scoop £30,000 in People's Postcode Lottery
Nine lucky neighbours in Staffordshire were celebrating over the Bank Holiday weekend – after scooping £30,000 each in the People's Postcode Lottery.
A total of £270,000 was handed out to residents in Longfellow Road, in Burntwood, after their postcode WS7 2EY won the Street Prize on Sunday.
One resident, 71-year-old Ronald Cooper said he had a near miss with landing the "life-changing" money – having previously cancelled his subscription to the Postcode Lottery.
Mr Cooper said: "I actually cancelled my subscription to the Postcode Lottery a couple of years ago but thankfully I signed back up or I’d have been gutted to miss this.
“It is a life-changing amount for me but I will need to have a think about what to spend it on. A holiday will definitely be first on the list – somewhere nice and warm.”
Husband and wife duo Patricia and Graham Wright were also in luck and said they would spend the cash on "a few holidays to Spain and buy a new car."
While, their neighbour 69-year-old Roger Catterell said: "I had no idea what to expect but I thought it’d be more like £1,000 so I am absolutely over the moon with £30,000.
"I haven’t had a holiday in about five years, so I will definitely take a bit of time away, probably in England or Scotland so I can take my dogs with me.
“The amazing things is that when you play Postcode Lottery you are helping so many charities, so this is just a massive bonus for me.”
Tony Williams, 59, said he was "gob smacked" to see the amount of money on the cheque.
He added: "My wife is the level-headed one, so she kept her expectations low and was even more shocked than me.
“We will use the money to help the kids out first and foremost, but we will also treat ourselves to a holiday and do up the house.”
The other Longfellow Road winners will have the money paid into their bank accounts.
A minimum of 32 per cent of ticket sales goes to charities and players of the People's Postcode Lottery have helped raise more than £416 million for good causes. Pipe Hall Farm, just a few miles away from the Burntwood winners, is one of several woodlands across the country benefitting from players' support.
