The 52-year-old, who has been described as "a pillar of the community", is believed to have been protecting his elderly mother when he was attacked on Thursday.

Now, Ian's family and friends are inviting anyone who would like to pay tribute to the father-of-two to join them at a vigil at the Stonnall Playing Fields at 7pm.

Ian's close friend, Rob Ellwood, said: "We would like to welcome everyone to join us in a vigil to show our love and support to the family and friends of lan Price.

"After the vigil we will take the book of condolences into the Royal Oak Stonnall so it's available for people to sign from about 8pm.

"I will be able to supply some candles and some battery powered candles for the kids but please if you can bring one with you."
